Emergency Spending Bill Leaves Out Dream Act and Children’s Health Insurance
Washington, D.C. – On Thursday, the Senate passed an emergency spending bill by a 66-32 vote to fund the government through January 19. The bill did not include the Dream Act or funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
In response, Maria Teresa Kumar, Voto Latino President and CEO, issued the following statement:
“Today’s lack of courage to do what is right is not taken lightly. The country is watching closely. There will be a political price for those who put their interests before American values. We stand with our Dreamers who are on the frontlines and will continue to fight for a permanent DACA solution. These attacks on immigrant youth further fuel our drive to work vigorously in 2018 to increase voter registration and drive political change. We are in this fight together.”
