Vote NO against Kate’s Law & No Sanctuary bills

Washington, D.C. – June 29, 2017 – Today the House will vote on two key pieces of legislation that would ramp up President Trump’s mass deportation agenda and harm public safety. The bills introduced by Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), “Kate’s Law” and the “No Sanctuary for Criminals Act,” are unconstitutional, criminalize immigrants and make it difficult for local law enforcement to keep communities safe. The laws would implement more severe penalties for illegal re-re-entry and withhold millions in federal funding from cities and states that fail to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

In response, Jessica Reeves, Chief Operating Officer of Voto Latino, the leading civic media organization empowering American Latino millennials, released the following statement:

“The ‘No Sanctuary for Criminals Act’ and ‘Kate’s Law’ do not implement protections for Americans. Instead, the bills serve as tools to separate families, undermine local law enforcement, and terrorize immigrant communities. Families across America deserve real solutions to our broken immigration system. President Trump and the GOP House must stop demonizing immigrants and focus on developing bi-partisan comprehensive immigration reform. It’s the solution Americans want, with 4 to 1 voters supporting an earned pathway to citizenship over mass deportation. We strongly urge House representatives to vote no on these two unconstitutional anti-immigrant bills. Passing these bills would be un-American.”
