WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 19, 2017 – Voto Latino, the leading civic media organization empowering American Latino millennials, released a statement from President and CEO Maria Teresa Kumar on on the importance, and the legacy, of the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA)  ahead of tomorrow’s anniversary.

“Along with the Voting Rights Act, the National Voter Registration Act is one of the most important pieces of civil rights legislation in American history. Since it passed Congress with bipartisan support in 1993, the NVRA has protected the right to vote for millions of Americans and increased voter registration rates.

“While the Administration chooses to create commissions that focus on problems that don’t actually exist, through the Election Integrity Commission, Voto Latino and our voting rights partners are committed to protecting the progress made under the NVRA and making our country’s democracy accessible to all.”
