Voto Latino Announces Brandon Hernandez and Sonal Shah As New Co-Chairs

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Voto Latino announces the appointment of Brandon Hernandez and recently added member Sonal Shah as new co-chairs.

A few weeks back, Voto Latino announced the addition of the Honorable Julián Castro (former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development), Sonal Shah (Executive Director for the Beeck Center for Social Impact + Innovation at Georgetown University), and Brian Stansbury (Attorney at King & Spalding LLP) to the board. Brandon Hernandez serves as the Senior Director of External Affairs an Strategic Initiatives for Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

“The Latino community finds itself in a defining moment. The deliberate, reckless, and systemic attacks on the community warrant critical action,” said new Voto Latino Co-Chair Brandon Hernandez. “This responsive action will have to come from young Latinos who have the potential to drastically change the narrative, the political landscape, and direction of our country for years to come. Voto Latino has always been at the forefront of empowering young Latinos to increase their civic engagement,  and I’m excited to step up and lead our efforts to support these agents of change we drastically need today.”

New Co-Chair Sonal Shah added, “To see the young people in the country take leadership – the Parkland students, the DREAMers, young women leaders – by taking action, protesting,  addressing state capitals, and the halls of Congress to demand change has been inspiring and motivating. Organizations like Voto Latino are empowering the next generation of leaders and building a pipeline of talent that is affecting change. I’m looking forward to contributing to the work Voto Latino is doing, and engaging our future trailblazers.”

The new leadership appointments come on the heels of the organization’s new digital and grassroots campaign, SOMOS MÁS, which will lead the way for Voto Latino’s voter registration efforts in 2018 and beyond.
