Voto Latino’s Response To Ruling on DACA: “Our Work is Not Done”
Washington, DC, November 8th, 2018 – In response to the news that the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a ruling that prevents the Trump Administration from ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Voto Latino President Maria Teresa Kumar issued the following statement:
“Much to the chagrin of the Trump Administration, the Ninth Circuit made the right decision today to allow the DACA program to continue, ruling in favor of protecting Dreamers from deportation and against the White House’s relentless and barbaric pursuit to phase out this crucial program. Our friends and allies in the grassroots community who have stood by Dreamers and fought to protect their rights every step of the way should be proud of this decision, but our work is not done until a permanent solution giving Dreamers a path to citizenship is signed into law.
“It is hard enough that those living under DACA protection are forced to live their lives in limbo and in fear of deportation each and every day. DACA recipients are the fabric of our communities, and they represent the best of America. They are teachers, they are doctors, they are police officers. They are mothers, they are fathers and they are our neighbors. Giving them a permanent path to citizenship absolutely must be a top priority of this next Congress.”
