Vanessa Cárdenas is a seasoned political strategist and policy expert on issues related to Latino political participation, immigration, demographic change and women’s political empowerment. At EMILY’s List she works to develop strategic relationships with groups and communities across the country. Cárdenas joined EMILY’s List in 2016 as Director of Strategic Communications to expand the organization’s message and reach into key states and communities. She is also an integral part of the “Run to Win” Program which seeks to harness the energy of the thousands of women stepping up to run for office since the 2016 election.She came to EMILY’s List from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) where she supported efforts towards a global climate agreement. Prior to WWF, she worked at Center for American Progress (CAP) where she founded the project Progress 2050. Vanessa’s first job in DC was with the National Immigration Forum where she joined local and national allies in the struggle for a fair and just immigration system. She started her career as a teacher assistant for the Arlington Public Schools and as a public education officer for the Arlington County Fire Department.
