Federal Agents’ Intimidating Tactics Aiming at Instilling Fear Cannot be Ignored

Border patrol showing up at Governor Newsom’s press conference on safeguarding Democracy in the United States is yet another troubling example of DHS’ excessive use of force.

Washington, D.C. — Today, federal agents conducted an immigration enforcement operation in downtown Los Angeles during Governor Newsom’s speech addressing congressional redistricting. Condemning this escalation, Voto Latino issued the following statement:

“What we witnessed today is a blatant use of law enforcement as a political weapon. Instead of keeping our communities safe and secure, this action is undermining our democracy and dangerously eroding public trust. This administration is being intentional about who they’re targeting and where they want to provoke chaos. From day one, they have shown who they are, putting politics over people, and cruelty over compassion. At this moment, vulnerable communities, including immigrants, Latinos and Black Americans, across the country are being forced to live in fear as the administration continues to escalate its attacks. Voto Latino continues to stand with Black, immigrant and Latino families, fighting to ensure that their rights are protected and their voices heard. We will not be intimidated into silence.”
