WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, in response to the Republican machinery aiming to limit Latino voter participation in the upcoming November elections, Voto Latino Co-Founder and President María Teresa Kumar released the following statement:

“MAGA Republicans’ ongoing efforts to impose restrictive voting measures are a direct attack on the Latino community’s ability to exercise their fundamental right to vote. The recent push to make proof of citizenship mandatory for voting is a clear example of these efforts,” said Voto Latino Co-Founder and President Maria Teresa Kumar. “These measures, often disguised as attempts to ensure ‘election integrity,’ are in reality, tactics to suppress Latino voter turnout and disenfranchise our community.”

“In Texas, we are witnessing aggressive moves to purge voter files and intimidate voters, further exacerbating the barriers already faced by Latino communities. By creating unnecessary obstacles to voting, MAGA Republicans are attempting to silence the voices of the Latino community.”

“In 2020, MAGA Republicans put in place these same tactics and Latinos defeated them at the ballot boxes. We’ll do it again in November. Voto Latino will continue mobilizing and registering our community so they can exercise their right to vote and increase their political power.”
