The House Must Act to Protect Affordable Health Care for Millions

Washington, D.C. — With Congress set to leave for winter recess this week without a legislative solution to fix America’s health care crisis due to Republican obstruction, four Republicans joined House Democrats and signed onto Minority Leader Jeffries’ discharge petition to force a vote on a clean, three-year extension of the Affordable Care Act subsidies. This new development is a critical step towards keeping health care attainable and affordable for millions of American families.

Voto Latino issued the following statement in response:

“Roughly 22 million Americans rely on enhanced ACA tax credits to afford health coverage. If Republicans allow these subsidies to expire at the end of the year, families will face immediate and devastating premium increases. This is an unacceptable outcome as one of the wealthiest nations in the world.

House Republican leadership has repeatedly blocked efforts to extend these life-saving subsidies, even as families struggle with rising costs. Letting them expire would deepen a health-care affordability crisis that Congress has the power to stop right now.

Voto Latino applauds the lawmakers who put people over politics by signing the discharge petition and forcing this vote forward after Republican House leadership refused to act. This is the clearest path to protecting health care for tens of millions of Americans.

We will continue to hold lawmakers accountable and ensure Latino voters know exactly who is fighting to protect their health, and who is willing to gamble with it. The House must pass a clean extension without delay. Families cannot afford excuses, and voters will remember who failed to act in 2026.”
