Three Top Texas Democrats, One Stage: Voto Latino Takes Closing GOTV Rally to the Rio Grande Valley with Hinojosa, Talarico, and Pulido
Rally aims to mobilize the Valley’s 665,575 eligible Latino voters and close the gap from 2024, when nearly 316,000 Latinos sat out
Washington, D.C. — Today, Voto Latino announced that it will host its Ready. Go. Vote. rally, its closing event in the Rio Grande Valley, featuring Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa, Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico, and Democratic candidate for TX-15 Bobby Pulido. Attendees will hear from the candidates, make a plan to vote, and connect with volunteers and community leaders.
Three of the most closely watched Democratic candidates in the country are coming together at this rally, and they’re doing it in the Rio Grande Valley for a reason. The path to a Democratic House majority runs straight through South Texas. The Valley is home to 665,575 eligible Latino voters, a bloc big enough to help Democrats take back the House. Yet in 2024, nearly 316,000 of them sat out.
Texas Republicans tried to cash in on the Latino vote with a mid-decade redistricting, but it has backfired. Instead of locking in a safe seat, they’ve made TX-15 one of the most competitive races in the country this cycle. Voto Latino is working to close that turnout gap by making sure every eligible voter has a plan and the information they need to cast a ballot. The Valley will help decide who controls Congress, and all eyes are on it.
At the rally, Voto Latino will amplify the voices of Hinojosa, Talarico, and Pulido as they speak with the community about the issues that matter most to Texas families, from affordability to immigration.
“Voto Latino knows Texas is ground zero for the Latino vote; as such, we have invested millions enfranchising young voters and turning them out for close to a decade,” said María Teresa Kumar, President and Co-Founder of Voto Latino. “And our base building is paying off. We’ve directly registered close to 416,000 and intend to contact and turnout over 800,000 voters with intention. We’ve bet big on Texas and the Rio Grande Valley because as it goes, so goes the country. We are heading straight to the epicenter of the Latino vote to make sure every voter is informed and ready to cast their ballot. Make no mistake—Latinos are on the ballot and we know it. We are a young, growing electorate, and that’s our superpower. From the governor’s seat to the U.S. Senate, and to the House of Representatives, Gina, James, and Bobby are speaking to the issues Tejanos care about, and we’re proud to stand with them in the Valley.”
“Being from the Rio Grande Valley, there’s no better place to head for the final stretch,” said Gina Hinojosa, Democratic Texas gubernatorial candidate. “For too long, Texans have been paying more and getting less under Greg Abbott. I’m proud to be joining Voto Latino, making sure every family in the Valley has the information and the power to make their voice heard from now until Election Day.”
“Being a lifelong Texan, I know what it means when families are stretched thin by rising costs while the powerful look out for themselves,” said James Talarico, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. “Latino families in Texas have always carried this state forward, and they should have leaders who listen and deliver. Our democracy works best when every neighbor has a seat at the table, and I’m grateful to Voto Latino for bringing us together for these final days.”
“I was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, and I’ve spent my life on stages and in communities across this region,” said Bobby Pulido, Democratic candidate for Texas’ 15th Congressional District. “What I hear from families isn’t about left or right. They want good jobs, affordable health care, and schools that give their kids a real shot. Our community has always shown up for one another, and I’m proud to be here with Voto Latino to make sure every voice in the Valley is heard.”
