Voto Latino Applauds Lawsuit by a Dozen Congressional Democrats Challenging Trump-Vance Administration’s Obstruction of ICE Facility Oversight

Washington, D.C. — Today, Voto Latino unequivocally supports the historic lawsuit filed by a dozen Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives challenging the Trump-Vance administration’s obstruction of congressional oversight of ICE detention facilities. Among the plaintiffs is Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Rep. Adriano Espaillat, whose leadership underscores the urgency and gravity of this moment.

Applauding this critical action by members of Congress, Voto Latino issued the following statement:

“What we have witnessed in the past six months under the Trump-Vance Administration is not normal. Our communities have never experienced fear and uncertainty to the level that we do now. We have seen how the administration continues to enable the Department of Homeland Security and ICE to act outside the bounds of their responsibility, putting communities across the country at risk.

“Now, even the basic right of Congress to inspect detention facilities is being denied. This lawsuit is a critical step in defending the legal right to oversight, ensuring that no one is detained without due process, and that the dignity of every individual is protected. Transparency and accountability are essential to a functioning democracy, and this administration’s attempt to hide the conditions inside detention centers is both unlawful and dangerous.

“At Voto Latino, we commend the historic steps taken by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus under the leadership of Congressman Espillat and all of the members leading this fight during these unprecedented times. We also remain committed to fighting alongside leaders who are standing up for immigrant rights, demanding justice, and upholding the rule of law.”
