Voto Latino Applauds Passage of the Inflation Reduction Act

Today the House of Representatives passed the Inflation Reduction Act, a package of legislation that contains transformational investments to protect our planet’s future and strengthen our nation’s health care system for everyone. In response to the news, Voto Latino president and CEO María Teresa Kumar issued the following statement:

“We celebrate the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, a bill that will improve healthcare and lower costs for millions of Americans. The bill includes historic climate provisions that will reduce emissions and invest in clean energy. It’s a pivotal accomplishment that will pay dividends for generations, and its provisions will be especially beneficial to marginalized communities, like people of color and poor people, who often bear the brunt of climate change and climate disasters.

“While the Inflation Reduction Act is an essential investment in our future, we urge Congress to continue to explore provisions that were scrapped during negotiations due to Republican opposition. Moving forward, Congress needs to find new opportunities to make meaningful progress on the issues that were excluded from these bills. We must not undervalue the transformational nature of this bill, but there’s more we can do to maintain progress and provide much needed support to vulnerable communities.”
