Voto Latino Comments on Federal Appeals Court Ruling on the Voting Rights Act
In response to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit issuing a ruling that threatens to gut the enforcement of the Voting Rights Act, Voto Latino released the following statement:
“The ruling by the 8th Circuit dismantles years of precedent around enforcing Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. It’s a shameful attempt to erase the use of impact litigation and a violation of voting rights across the country.
“This ruling directly undermines the Voting Rights Act’s ability to protect Americans from discrimination based on their race, leaving marginalized communities vulnerable to anti-democratic officials. Voto Latino is committed to defending equal access to the right to vote across the country, and we will continue to pursue legal avenues wherever possible.”
