Voto Latino Comments on Reports of Dehumanizing Misconduct by Texas State Troopers at the Border

In response to the reports of dehumanizing misconduct by Texas State Troopers at the border, Founding President and CEO María Teresa Kumar released the following statement:

“The reports out of Texas are alarming, disturbing, and inhumane. The continued embrace of nativism and white nationalism puts communities of color at an increased risk of violence. As a nation, we must embrace and protect the most vulnerable — especially those fleeing violence and seeking asylum and safety within our borders. Voto Latino calls for an immediate, independent investigation to determine the veracity of the claims. If true, the federal government must intervene immediately to stop the human rights violations perpetrated at the border.”
