Voto Latino Congratulates Abigail Spanberger on Her Historic Election as Virginia’s First Woman Governor

Washington, D.C. — Today, history was made as Abigail Spanberger was elected as Virginia’s first female governor. Governor-elect Spanberger’s victory represents a milestone for representation and leadership for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In response to this historic election, Voto Latino issued the following statement:

“Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger’s election marks not only a historic moment for Virginia but also a promise of progress—a vision of leadership grounded in compassion, service, and a deep commitment to improving the lives of every Virginian. Voto Latino proudly congratulates her on this groundbreaking achievement

Governor-elect Spanberger has a long track record of delivering practical solutions that make a real difference for working families through her time in Congress. Now, she’ll bring that same commitment to Virginians, working to make Virginia more welcoming and affordable by expanding access to affordable health care, expanding economic opportunity, and strengthening Virginia’s schools.

Making up nearly 11% of Virginia’s population, Latinos’ voices and votes were instrumental in shaping this historic outcome. Their participation reflects the growing power of the Latino electorate and the shared belief that good governance can and should deliver for all communities.

Voters sent a clear message tonight: the country is heading in the wrong direction under President Trump and Republican leadership. Let this be a lesson — when our needs are ignored, our cities militarized, and our civil liberties violated, we will not stand by. We will vote for those who truly have our best interests at heart. As we look ahead to the midterms, we urge Democrats to build on tonight’s victories, invest early in our communities, and earn the trust of voters through action, not just promises.”

At Voto Latino, we look forward to working alongside Governor-elect Spanberger and her team to ensure that every Virginian—regardless of background, income, or zip code—has access to the opportunities and resources needed to build a better future.
