Voto Latino Mourns the Death of Supreme Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Washington, DC – Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away Friday due to complications from cancer. The entire Voto Latino organization was devastated to learn of her death. In a legal career spanning six decades, Justice Ginsburg was best known for her work in advancing gender equality, arguing several cases before the Supreme Court. In 1980, Ginsburg was nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit by President Jimmy Carter. President Bill Clinton nominated her to the Supreme Court in 1993, where she served until her death.

“Supreme Justice Ginsberg’s passing means so much to so many Americans who live and love freer because of her,” said María Teresa Kumar, President and CEO of Voto Latino. “A champion for women, love equity, health access, and race equity, we mourn today. Tomorrow, we continue to fulfill her more just vision for our nation.”

Ginsburg was a hero to millions. According to her granddaughter, days before her death, Justice Ginsburg said, “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.” Voto Latino will work towards educating, engaging, and mobilizing our community to ensure it is so.
