Voto Latino Statement on the U.S. v. Texas Immigration Case
In response to the recent Supreme Court arguments in U.S. v. Texas, which challenge President Biden’s discretion to prioritize immigration actions against individuals who threaten public safety, Maria Teresa Kumar, President and CEO of Voto Latino, released the following statement:
“The lawsuit being pushed by right-wing Attorneys General is a politically motivated attack on undocumented people to pander to the extreme MAGA GOP base. It isn’t a controversial view to say that the government should prioritize resources on immigration enforcement designed to keep our communities safe, not terrorize people based on the color of their skin. Immigrant communities continue to be a vital part of the fabric of this nation, and they deserve to be treated with decency and respect.
“At the same time, this lawsuit–and the dangerously extreme court hearing the case–underscores the urgent need for Congress to take immediate action to fix our broken immigration system. We need a pathway to citizenship for the millions of hardworking undocumented people in the U.S. who are already part of our families, our communities and our country.”
