WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, in response to a Texas federal judge’s decision to block the Biden-Harris administration from granting legal status to immigrant spouses of U.S. citizens, Voto Latino Co-Founder and President María Teresa Kumar released the following statement:

“This immigration relief delivered by the Biden-Harris administration was designed to keep families together and provide a pathway to citizenship for immigrant spouses of U.S. citizens. Blocking it not only disrupts the lives of countless families, but also puts them back in the shadows,” said Voto Latino Co-Founder and President Maria Teresa Kumar. “MAGA Republicans are determined to continue separating families. The decision comes from a federal judge in Texas appointed by Trump, who granted a request from 16 Republican-led states.

“This is just another example of the threat a second Trump term poses to our Latino community, to our freedoms, and to our democracy. Voto Latino will continue mobilizing and empowering Latino voters, to ensure that their voices are heard.”
