Voto Latino Responds to Supreme Court Ruling on Alabama’s Congressional Map
In response to the Supreme Court’s decision to order Alabama officials to redraw the state’s congressional map to allow an additional Black majority district, Voto Latino President and CEO María Teresa Kumar issued the following statement:
“This case is just one in a series of efforts to stop people of color from voting, but it’s nonetheless a win for our democracy. With our democracy under attack on many fronts, we will continue to work hard in our courts, in the states and on the ground to ensure the health and vibrancy of our elections
Following this decision, we are hopeful that the Supreme Court will now accept our Writ of Certiorari to review the ruling from the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals on legislation in Texas that would prevent college students from registering to vote in Texas and participate in local elections.”
