WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, in response to President Joe Biden’s border announcement, Voto Latino Co-Founder and President María Teresa Kumar released the following statement:
“Voto Latino has never believed the solution to immigration should be a wall. What our nation needs is a common-sense solution that includes both border security and a pathway to citizenship for the teachers, farmers, and caretakers who are undocumented people and have lived in America for years. This includes Dreamers who arrived as children, those with U.S. citizen family members, and those who currently have temporary protection from deportation. All of them contribute to the backbone of our economy,” said Voto Latino Co-Founder and President María Teresa Kumar. “Republicans continue following Trump’s playbook and engage in political games by blocking the bipartisan border agreement. Voters won’t forget this in November. In fact, a large majority of Americans support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. We ask the Biden-Harris administration to deliver on their promise to provide protections for our undocumented community, so they can live without fear, achieve financial stability, and reach the American Dream.
“Voto Latino will continue registering, mobilizing, and informing Latino voters to empower our community and create a more robust and inclusive democracy and economy.”
