Summary:

Voto Latino is a grassroots political organization focused on educating and empowering a new generation of Latino voters, and seeks an energetic full-time Assistant Press Secretary. The Assistant Press Secretary is a writing- and research-intensive role that works closely with, and reports to, the VP of Communications to execute a fast-paced media plan, expand the national and regional coverage of Voto Latino, and produce communications materials and research. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the VP of Communications to execute Voto Latino’s communications strategy and amplify Voto Latino’s work.
  • Produce outstanding written materials: draft standard pieces such as press releases, media advisories, talking points, and other materials as needed.
  • Synthesize research into appropriate messaging.
  • Execute Voto Latino’s earned media strategy, intaking media requests, and preparing and disseminating communications tools such as press releases, op-eds, public statements, talking points, presentations, media advisories, and pitch ideas.
  • Assist with pitching stories to national and regional papers, magazines and long-form media outlets, TV, and radio stations, cable news, online outlets, and other influential media outlets.
  • Conduct media monitoring.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of professional work in communications and earned media, preferably grassroots organizations, political campaigns, Capitol Hill, or a related area.
  • Experience executing traditional and digital communications strategies.
  • Previous experience working with members of the press.
  • Excellent writing skills and an ability to draft materials quickly, incorporating strategic communications objectives into written materials.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent copy editing, presentation, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Proficiency in WordPress, Slack, Canva, Mailchimp, Google Workspace (especially Sheets and Slides).
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, political science, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish / English is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to, and awareness of Latino civil rights and/or issues of social justice.

Salary & Benefits:

Between $55,000 and $60,000 annual salary. Voto Latino offers competitive benefits, including health insurance, and paid vacation leave. This is a full-time employment position.
