Vice President Harris won the evening by demonstrating her wealth of policy proposals and her poise under pressure.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Voto Latino, the leading civic engagement organization focused on educating and empowering a new generation of Latino voters, weighed in today on last night’s presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.
In short: It is clear that Harris won the debate. The Vice President made herself better known to Americans, and presented concrete plans and proposals that will make our country stronger and our people more prosperous.
Both candidates made it clear that a second Trump presidency would be a definitive setback for our country. The disgraced former president showed himself to be divisive, self-obsessed, and a threat for the future of our economy, our security, and our democracy.
The most important question of the night was: Who was best able to speak to the undecided voters? And that’s especially true about the undecided in the key states of Wisconsin, Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina. That is what it means to win the debate and that is how you win the election – and it is clear that the victor was the Vice President.
For his part, Trump spoke only to the grievance-obsessed far-right MAGA audience, ignoring the everyday concerns of millions of voters who are focused on housing, education, healthcare, and more. His refusal to seriously engage with the issues and to instead spend the evening spewing provably false conspiracy theories is once again a reminder that he is uninterested in governing for all Americans. With all eyes on the debate, he once again demonized immigrants and trotted out the same old anti-Latino rhetoric.
What we heard last night from Vice President Harris is that she will work for the American people – all of us. She charted out a vision of a better future and proved her case that she is the best candidate to take America forward.
