Noem’s “Alternative Reality” Is Fueling Chaos After ICE Killing

Washington, D.C – Despite detailed reports and video footage of the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem once again made misleading claims during a press conference.

In response to Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem’s misleading claims, Voto Latino issues the following statement:

“Secretary Kristi Noem had a clear opportunity to lead with truth and de-escalation after Renee Nicole Good was killed by federal agents. Instead, she chose to inflame, distort, and divide. Her remarks were not only irresponsible—they were dangerous.

The video evidence directly contradicts the alternative reality being pushed by Trump and members of his administration. Despite the visual record, Secretary Noem and Trump continue to promote a version of events detached from fact, further eroding public trust and deepening national division.

Secretary Noem’s decision to label this tragedy as ‘domestic terrorism’ is a willful mischaracterization of what the footage shows: an unnecessary escalation of force against a woman who local leaders say was acting as a legal observer, not a threat. Her rhetoric is not about public safety—it is about political opportunism at the expense of real human lives.

Renee Nicole Good should be alive today. This issue impacts all Americans regardless of immigration status. We demand a thorough investigation and the suspension of the ICE agent involved.”
