Voto Latino Honors the Enduring Legacy of Reverend Jesse Jackson

Washington, D.C. — Voto Latino is deeply saddened by the passing of Reverend Jesse Jackson, a trailblazing civil rights leader and founder of the Rainbow PUSH coalition, whose lifelong vision helped shape a more equitable nation. 

Voto Latino issued the following statement: 

“Reverend Jesse Jackson embodied what it means to be a true public servant. Through his moral leadership, he inspired generations to believe that democracy belongs to all of us. His unwavering commitment to economic justice, voting rights and affirmative action, as well as stewardship on the international front left a lasting mark on our society. 

He reimagined what politics could look like when community voices are front and center. He challenged our nation to confront inequality head-on and reminded us that participation is power. His historic presidential campaigns and decades of advocacy helped transform the fight for voting rights from aspiration into action—opening doors for communities that had long been shut out of the political process.

Reverend Jesse Jackson was a true ally to our movement and struggle. He believed in Voto Latino, and shared our commitment to ensuring that all voices—particularly those often ignored, marginalized, or unheard—are represented in the democratic process. At a time where our voting rights are once again under attack, we are called to carry forward his legacy and ‘Keep Hope Alive.’”
