Income inequality has become really commonplace in America and there is very little being done about it. Wealth has largely been concentrated at the top, leaving working class people basically out in the cold. Low wages affect everything from your ability to retire to visiting a doctor for a simple check up. This is an issue that impacts people across America. Wealth inequality has never been higher and it is important that we do something about it now!

The federal minimum wage is currently $7.25/hour. This is not a living wage anywhere in the country, and while some states and cities have taken steps to increase the minimum wage, we need a comprehensive solution to ensure everyone is making a fair wage. In 2019, the House of Representatives voted to raise the national minimum wage to $15/hour by 2025, which is a good first step, but the bill died in the Senate.

These issues may seem overwhelming but they can be addressed through the people who we choose to represent us in our government. If we elect people that listen to our community and take our concerns seriously, then we can begin to see a shift in the way this country is run. A shift that is long overdue–just look at the disparity between how much Latinas make. On average Latinas are paid 31 percent less than white women and 46 percent less than white men. How fair is it to work the same amount of hours and be compensated for less than half of that work!? It’s not fair at all but that is what the gender pay gap is.
