Voto Latino Applauds President Biden’s Executive Order on Gun Control

Today, President Biden signed an executive order in response to the ongoing gun violence crisis in America. Voto Latino issued the following statement:

“The President’s executive order makes clear he’s committed to using the power of the presidency to reduce the toll gun violence takes on our communities.

“With the rise in gun-related hate crimes we have seen in recent years, like the racially motivated shootings in El Paso and Uvalde, TX, it is imperative we make progress towards enacting red flag laws and increase background checks. While mass shootings garner the most attention, the bulk of gun violence in this country, including in Latino communities, happens in domestic or intimate partner situations – both are intolerable. Furthermore, guns are the leading cause of death for children in this country. This executive order will save lives. It’s exactly the kind of decisive action that voters wanted when they elected President Biden and Vice President Harris to the White House.

“This executive action comes in the backdrop of a GOP who has committed to stonewalling any progress on gun violence. We at Voto Latino applaud the President and this executive action, and we will continue to push for policies that help limit these unnecessary tragedies in our communities.”
