Voto Latino Applauds Supreme Court Ruling Allowing Biden to End Trump’s ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy

In response to the United States Supreme Court’s ruling allowing President Biden to end the Trump administration’s “Remain in Mexico” policy, Voto Latino President and CEO María Teresa Kumar issued the following statement:

“Today’s decision by the Supreme Court is an important victory and welcome relief for scores of asylum seekers and others fleeing grave danger to pursue refuge in the United States. President Biden inherited a dysfunctional immigration system and he has worked tirelessly to end the cruelty and xenophobia inflicted by the Trump administration. “Remain in Mexico” epitomized Trump’s racism by forcing vulnerable people to endure inhumane conditions and interminable delays in their immigration proceedings. We’ll be far better off with this reprehensible policy behind us.

“This decision will help the Biden administration rebuild an immigration system rooted in the American ideals of compassion, empathy and mutual respect. Comprehensive solutions for our immigration system are urgently needed, and it’s time to embrace policies aligned with the values of the inclusive, multiethnic democracy that have defined our nation since its founding.”
