Voto Latino: Budget Bill Deepens Latino Health care Crisis, Threatens Families Nationwide
Washington, D.C. — As the House of Representatives gears up for a vote on the budget legislation passed by the U.S. Senate, Voto Latino strongly opposes the bill and is urging members from both parties to vote no. This bill jeopardizes the health and well-being of Latino communities by failing to fund the ACA subsidies to keep health coverage within reach.
Voto Latino issued the following statement:
“The bill before the House of Representatives does not live up to the urgent needs of our families — it offers neither sufficient safeguards nor meaningful investments to protect access to health care. Latinos continue to face deep inequities in health care: nearly one in five Latinos remains uninsured — more than double the national average — and more than half are underinsured or struggle to afford care.
These disparities are made worse by language barriers and immigration fears. Instead of strengthening access to affordable health care, this budget prioritizes cuts and neglects the basic needs of working families. By moving forward with a plan that omits these critical elements, lawmakers are choosing austerity over opportunity and neglecting communities that have long carried the weight of systemic under-investment.
Voto Latino calls on the U.S. House of Representatives to exercise its responsibility to the American people, and specifically to Latino and immigrant communities, by voting no on this budget bill in its current form. Equitable policy demands more than halfway measures. We urge Republicans to return to the negotiating table, ensure that health, dignity, and opportunity for all are front and center—and enact a budget that truly reflects national priorities, not just political expediencies.”
Voto Latino stands ready to mobilize our network of civic and community leaders across the country to hold elected officials accountable for this moment. The stakes are too high for Latino families, immigrant workers, and the future of our democracy. We will not accept legislation that sidelines our communities.
