WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Voto Latino Co-Founder and President María Teresa Kumar released the following statement in response to the recent raids conducted by the Texas Attorney General’s office on the homes of League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) organizers.

“The recent actions taken by the Texas Attorney General’s office of targeting the homes of dedicated Latino community organizers under the guise of ‘voter fraud’ investigations, are deeply troubling and represent a blatant attempt at voter intimidation,” said Voto Latino Co-Founder and President Maria Teresa Kumar. “These raids, which have unjustly disrupted the lives of respected community members and leaders, echo a disturbing history of suppression tactics that have long sought to silence the voices of the Latino community across the nation.”

“We stand in solidarity with LULAC and all those affected by these aggressive and unwarranted actions. It is imperative that these tactics are met with the utmost scrutiny and investigation by authorities to ensure that the rights of every citizen are protected, and that such abuses of power are not tolerated.”

“Despite these intimidation efforts, the Latino community remains resilient and steadfast in our commitment to civic engagement.” Kumar continued. “We are more determined than ever to mobilize, organize, and participate in the democratic process. These actions will not deter us; rather, they will fuel our resolve to ensure that our voices are heard in November’s election.”
