Voto Latino Remembers President Carter, Offers Condolences to his Family

WASHINGTON, D.C.Today, Voto Latino, the leading civic engagement organization focused on informing and empowering the next generation of Latino voters, paid respect to the impact and memory of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter upon news that he has passed away. Voto Latino Co-Founder and President María Teresa Kumar issued the following statement:

“President Carter was an inspiration for so many of us. He believed fiercely in free and fair elections – and the Carter Center’s important work to strengthen elections has had a profound positive impact on democracy across the globe,” said Voto Latino Co-Founder and President María Teresa Kumar.

“When the Carter Center decided in 2020 to support the U.S. election for the first time in its history, it sent a strong signal about the importance of safeguarding the integrity of our own democracy. As part of the National Task Force on Election Crises, I was strongly encouraging of the decision.

“And that’s just one of the many ways President Carter has been a beacon of peace, hope, and democracy throughout the world from before his first day in the Oval Office until today. His impact as a human rights activist at home and abroad is an essential reminder of all the good we can do as a country.

“All of us at Voto Latino would like to express our deepest condolences to the Carter family. His remarkable legacy will live on.”
