Voto Latino Stands with CHC and Hispanic Federation in Demanding Accountability from ICE

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) and the Hispanic Federation launched a campaign calling for greater congressional oversight of immigration enforcement. This is an effort that represents a key step toward ensuring transparency, and holding ICE accountable for its actions.

In response to this new campaign, Voto Latino issued the following statement:

“Since day one of his administration,President Trump has pushed immigrant families further into the shadows. Instead of prioritizing public safety or rule of law, The Trump administration has doubled down on separating hardworking families by expanding the power of the Department of Homeland Security, fueling fear in communities across the country.

President Trump himself has said that there is no limit to how far his administration is willing to go to carry out their extreme mass deportation agenda. American citizens, law-abiding individuals, and innocent children are being caught in this dragnet every day.

Voters didn’t vote for this chaos, cruelty, and divisive immigration policy. DHS has gone too far and  continues to operate with little to no oversight. The administration’s attempts to weaken and undermine congressional oversight are not only troubling, but dangerous.

We applaud the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and Hispanic Federation for their leadership in restoring congressional oversight and defending human rights. We commend Chairman Espaillat for his unwavering commitment to protecting immigrant families.”

Voto Latino believes in holding the Administration accountable for its actions toward the immigrant community. In addition to supporting efforts to restore oversight of ICE, Voto Latino is also working to ensure DHS Secretary Kristi Noem is held responsible for policies that have further endangered immigrant families and undermined public trust in our nation’s values.

Voto Latino’s campaign to hold Secretary Noem consists of a formal letter demanding immediate oversight, a website that urges the public to contact their members of Congress, and paid targeted digital ads that have launched in vulnerable Republican districts.
